Steel Drum Classes at Cuesta College Start This Month

An introductory and an advanced steel drum classes commence at Cuesta College this month.

Introduction to Steel Drums

Introduction to Steel Drums is geared for students who love the sound of steel drums and would like to explore this art form, whether a novice or experienced musician. This hands-on class will give students the opportunity to play and perform in a real steel band. Rhythm skills, technical skills, and cultural aspects will be addressed. Class pace moves according to skill level of enrolled participants. Instruments are provided. Various musical styles such as calypso, afro-Cuban, reggae, pop, jazz, and classical will be explored. Class will culminate with a live performance at SLO's Farmer's Market.

Intermediate Steel Drums
Intermediate Steel Drum Band is geared for those students who have a foundation of steel drum experience and want to play beyond beginner level. The music and skill level is more challenging than intro level. Instruments are provided. The class will culminate with a live performance at SLO's Downtown Farmer's Market.
